LAYERS
Beautifully crafted, dramatic, highly detailed, small works graphite pencil drawings of individual stones found on the beaches near my home in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. This rock has such a unique little “cap” that looks like it can be removed possibly revealing something interesting underneath. Maybe a secret compartment? Of course the top does not come off but what cherished trinket would my collector put there if it did?
The traditions handed down from one generation to another, and the memories from them, are the most precious to us. This collection reflects the memories I have of time spent with my family on the beaches of the west coast of British Columbia collecting rocks, shells, and beach glass. Today, these little “gems” that end up coming home with me help connect me with my past and the memories ground me.
Each of these pieces are drawn on Strathmore plate finish acid free paper. I deliberately chose the smooth, almost glass like surface, of this paper because I wanted to create every nuance of texture myself with my pencil instead of the surface of the paper creating any texture as can happen with some papers. This gave me total control over all of the details that each beautiful stone possesses.
This piece best suits a minimum of an 8” x 10” frame. I can also suggest an even larger frame for this piece as I feel it would create a more dramatic feel and the piece would command more attention.
A certificate of authenticity is included with this original artwork.
